If you’re wondering where to eat in Porto, you’re in for a treat. This city serves up everything from hearty francesinha sandwiches to delicate pastéis de nata, with plenty of fresh seafood and Portuguese wine in between. Porto’s food scene mixes old-school taverns with modern bistros, food markets, and charming cafés. Each one offers something different, Let’s eat your way through the city like a local.
1. Bó tá quente
For proper Portuguese comfort food, Bó tá quente delivers honest, no-nonsense cooking at prices that won’t dent your holiday budget. This small, family-run restaurant fills up with students and locals who know good value when they taste it.
Expect generous portions of grilled and slow-cooked meats or rich caldos, all served with bread.
2. Tasquinha dos Loios
Tucked away in the historic center, this place feels like stepping into someone’s living room. The team running it treat every guest like a local.
The cooking style is traditional northern Portuguese, with an emphasis on seasonal ingredients and grandmother’s recipes. Portions are generous, and the bacalau a bras is really nice ( see the picture 😋)
3. Restaurante T&C
This T&C restaurant at the WoW district, brings a modern edge to Portuguese cooking without losing sight of tradition. The space is sleek and minimalist and there is an fantastic terrace. Great for a relaxed lunch break. It’s fine dining without the stuffiness, with friendly service. Root&Vine is another good option for brunch or dinner.
4. Say Cheesecake! & Co
Like this name suggest Say Cheesecake! & Co is the place if you like a lice of freshly made cheesecake. it’s really good but if you are looking for a breakfasts of lunch this is also your stop. The Ham & cheese toast is really great. We have visited this place 3x for ether breakfast of coffee break.
5. Honest Greens Santa Catarina
When you need a break from fried cod and heavy stews, Honest Greens offers fresh, healthy bowls that don’t skimp on flavour. This bright, modern spot on Rua de Santa Catarina focuses on seasonal vegetables, grains, and lean proteins. The menu changes regularly, but you can always build your own bowl with a base of quinoa, brown rice, or greens, then pile on roasted vegetables, grilled chicken, or sustainable fish. Everything tastes clean and thoughtfully prepared.
6. Time Out Market
This food hall sits inside the Mercado da Ribeira building and brings together some of Porto’s best chefs and street food vendors under one roof. You’ll find everything from traditional Portuguese petiscos (small plates) to Asian fusion bowls and artisan ice cream.
The setup is simple: browse the stalls, order what catches your eye, then grab a seat at the communal tables. It’s brilliant for groups who can’t agree on one cuisine, and this place has a great energy, especially on weekend afternoons.
Arrive before 1pm on weekdays to beat the lunch rush, or embrace the lively weekend evening vibe when locals come out to eat and drink.
7. Castro – Atelier de Pastéis de Nata
This is by far my favorite place for a Pasteis de Nata, Love the interior of this small shop and the Nata’s are the best! Sprinkle cinnamon on top?! I love that! makes everything more exciting.

8. Mercado do Bolhão
This historic market building reopened after renovations. The atmosphere is authentic and local. Vendors selling fresh fish, meat, or cheese. And food stalls.will prepare what you buy on the spot, grilling sardines or charcuterie boards.
Morning is when the market really comes alive, with vendors setting up their displays and locals doing their daily shopping. Saturday morning is particularly perfect.
9. Arcádia Chocolates
We have to talk about Port – Chocolates tastings 🍫🍷 You would not expect this but it is really tasty. It is a great experience and the Arcadia Store is having that old school vibe. You can get cute souvenir gifts here as well for friends and family home.
