7x Best things to Do in Valencia

Beaches, Markets, La Cuitat and so much more.

Written by Niké

Valencia is an ideal destination for a culinary, cultural, or relaxing citytrip. It has beautiful beaches, a famous old town center with many restaurants and a great vibe. We like to share some activities for your next city trip to Valencia.

1. Taste food at local Markets

Valencia’s markets are all about piles of oranges, hanging hams, fresh fish, cheeses, olives and little stalls where you can grab a coffee or a quick bite. It is busy and noisy in a good way! 😋

At Mercado Central you can find all kinds of fresh products, from local fruits, vegetables to regional meats and Manchego cheese. You just walk around, soak up the lively atmosphere and have a taste of al this great stuff.
In addition to the Mercado Central, there is also Mercado Colon. This market is located in the old town. This is also more of a food hall, with some great options for lunch or Tapas & Drinks.
And let’s not forget Mercado de Ruzafa, a market where locals actually do their shopping, full of fruit, fish, cheese and small bars.

2. Get lost in Ciutat Vella the Old Town

Just walking around 🚶‍♀️‍➡️the old town of Valencia might be the best thing to do. This area is filled with narrow streets, picturesque squares like Plaza de la Virgen, and buildings that have stood since the Middle Ages. You will find a variety of restaurants, cafés, and shops. Exploring this area is a great way to experience the culture and history of Valencia.

Miguelete bell tower

One of the most exhilarating experiences during my visit was definitely climbing the Miguelete bell tower, which is part of the beautiful cathedral. Once I reached the top, I was greeted by breathtaking panoramic views of the enchanting terracotta rooftops, stretching out across the horizon and creating a picturesque backdrop that captures the essence of the city. It’s a moment that truly encapsulated the beauty and charm of the area, leaving me in awe of the stunning scenery all around me!

3. Discover Ruzafa

Ruzafa is Valencia’s cool, creative neighbourhood, full of independent cafés, brunch spots, small galleries and bars. The streets here feel younger and more lived-in than the old town, with a nice mix of long-term residents and newcomers. At its core is the Mercado de Ruzafa.

4. Climb the Serranos Tower

Climb to the top of the Serranos tower, where you are rewarded with super views over the old city. Be sure to add this historical site to your Valencia list! Buy your entrance ticket on the official website.

5. Walk or cycle the Turia Park

This green oasis stretches for nine kilometers making it the most beautiful park of Valencia, Spain. You can find walking and biking paths, playgrounds, and even an open-air theater. The park is perfect to explore by bike on a sunny day! The park is open all day, every day and free. There are multiple access points, so just look for paths leading down from the bridges.

Book your bike tour at Valencia & Go. Prices are currently only €25 per person for a 2-hour guided tour.

6. Visit La Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències

The Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències feels like walking onto a film set, all gleaming white buildings reflected in shallow turquoise pools. The complex includes a science museum, an opera house, a 3D cinema and more, all set in landscaped spaces that are fun to wander even if you do not go inside. It is one of the most photographed parts of Valencia, and it really does live up to the hype in person.

It is free to walk around the exterior and enjoy the architecture. You only pay to go inside the different attractions, such as the science museum or cinema,

7. Relax at Valencia’s beaches

Insider tip

There are plenty of beachfront restaurants to perfectly end the day!🏖️

You do not have to leave the city to get proper beach time in Valencia. Playa de la Malvarrosa is a long, wide sandy beach with a promenade lined with restaurants and ice-cream stalls, while El Cabanyal behind it shows off colourful old fishermen’s houses and quieter backstreets. You can swim, sunbathe, walk for ages along the sand and then finish with seafood or paella overlooking the sea. Entry is free to the beaches and promenade.

People walk around a plaza with a fountain, historic buildings, and a cathedral under a partly cloudy sky.
