There are several neighborhoods that really capture that Roman life style, we like to recommend the most popular areas you need to see.
1. Centro Storico
The Historic Center, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site, is filled with iconic landmarks such as the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, and the Trevi Fountain. If you can wait to see the highlights of that great Roman history, Centro Storico is the place to be!
2. Vaticano
Vatican city is not really a neighborhoods but more a spiritual hub of the Roman Catholic Church. It is definitely a spot you can’t miss. Here you find the famous St. Peter’s Basilica or the Michelangelo’s ceiling in the Sistine Chapel. Every year, millions of people swing by to get a glimpse of the stunning architecture and incredible art.
3. Trastevere
Rome’s most beloved neighborhood,Trastevere! And we know exactly why, ist the cobblestone streets with small artisan shops, bohemian vibe and colorful buildings all around. You find this area on the west bank of the Tiber River. If you like to experience the Italian life and comfort food make sure to visit places like Nannarella or Tonnarello.
4. Flaminio
The not so touristy Flaminio can be found just north of the historic center. This area is known for its cultural institutions like the MAXXI Museum and the Auditorium Parco della Musica. If you’ve finished checking out all the ancient sites and are looking for something modern, then Zaha Hadid’s architectural work MAXXI is definitely worth visiting.
5. Prati
Prati is a chic and elegant neighborhood filled with stylish boutiques and trendy restaurants. The area is located next to the Vatican City and not to touristy making it a great place to stay. Here you can also see the Castel Sant’Angelo and the Corte Suprema di Cassazione at Piazza Cavour. Oh and if you are in the neighborhood make sure to grab a gelato at Gelateria La Romana 🍦
6. Monti
Monti is one of the coolest neighborhoods in Rome! Located between the Colosseum and the Termini Station it’s a place full of artists, creatives, and anyone looking for that chill vibe. This laid-back area is packed with vintage shops, boutiques, and trendy cafes. Monti really is the neighborhood where Romans itself love to socialize. Just walk around and enjoy amazing food at traditional trattorias.
